Our Humble Beginnings
It all started in 1968, when our founder, Claire Hanson, started Careline® as a passion project. Claire had sensitive skin and struggled to find products that didn’t cause irritation. She began creating her own skincare formulas using gentle, plant-based ingredients. The results were so transformative that friends and family encouraged Claire to sell her creations.
Initially, Claire made everything by hand in her home kitchen. She carefully blended ingredients like aloe vera, vitamin E, and essential oils into small batches of lotion and lip balm. Claire believed in the power of natural ingredients to nourish skin. Her background as a botanist gave her unique insights into how plants could enhance beauty.
Word of Claire’s products spread locally, and soon she was receiving more orders than she could fill herself. In 1975, Claire expanded into a small lab and brought on a few employees to help with production. This allowed Careline® to increase output while maintaining the artisanal touch.
Claire Hanson was a pioneer in the natural skincare movement. At a time when most brands focused on chemicals and synthetics, Careline® products revealed how plants could have a restorative effect on skin. As the company grew, Claire remained closely involved in product development. She insisted on using ethically sourced, organic ingredients whenever possible.
Growth & Expansion
By the 1980s, Careline® had become a leading name in natural skincare. Major retailers began carrying our lotions, creams, and lip care products across the country. To manage this growth, we opened our first large manufacturing facility in 1985.
New product lines were introduced to address more skin needs, like acne treatment and anti-aging serums. We also expanded into natural mineral makeup. Everything was produced using sustainable methods to reduce environmental impact.
Claire Hanson stepped down as CEO in 1995, passing the reigns to her daughter, Julia Hanson. Julia shared her mother’s passion for skin-nourishing ingredients and clean beauty. She focused on modernizing operations while upholding our founding principles.
Julia Hanson invested in advanced production technology that allowed us to bring innovations to market faster. She also expanded our botanical research division to uncover new plant-based ingredients. However, Julia ensured that every formula still went through rigorous testing for quality and safety.
Recent Innovations
Today, Careline® continues to be a trailblazer in the clean beauty space. While our roots remain in skincare, we’ve become a 360-degree brand offering makeup, hair care, suncare, and more. Our products blend the best of nature with green science.
We introduced our proprietary Nutri-Sphere® technology in 2010. This breakthrough delivery system maximizes absorption of vitamins, botanical extracts, and antioxidants. Our serums with Nutri-Sphere® enhance hydration and give skin a luminous glow.
Careline® has also pioneered the use of unique ingredients rarely found in mass market beauty. For example, our Facial Elixir contains caviar lime extract sustainably sourced from Australia. This wonder ingredient replenishes collagen and repairs damage.
